If you don't mind the look of tyres, you can stack them up about five high and fill each layer with soil/compost and the last couple of tyres with your spud pieces. This saves space in a small garden and the potato plants look nice and tall! It is fun for the kids to take off each tyre and rummage around to find the new spuds inside as well.

If you can get hold of a whole lot of pine needles and use them as mulch around the strawberry plants you can keep the berries off the ground and provide a great source of acidity to the plants - which they love. But anything really will do. I made use of the grass clippings last time and they kept the weeds at bay.
